Never forget a Daughter in law, either!

Cynthia's jacket

This was the present I knitted my daughter in law for her birthday.  She liked it very much and there were rave reviews from her friends.  This is also Plymouth yarn - Royal Llama Cotton Grande and the pattern is #1570.  Done on a #11 needle it took no time at all.. Yarn and pattern can be ordered from Ewe Knit Kits & Yarn http://www.eweknitkits.com .

Problem:  I have 3 daughters in law... Better get busy $#^&*(^&*())((^^$#^% .. I can't have them respond like my grandson did....

Oh Granddaughters.... but never forget the grandsons!!!!

Brooke in dress Sydney's dress

What a great time we had last weekend!  One of our daughters-in-law celebrated her birthday and we went to Charleston to join in the festivities.  I knitted little dresses for our 2 granddaughters and, as you can see, Brooke had to wear hers immediately. Let's think... was I offended by that?  NOT! This picture was taken after she had already pulled on all of the buttons and attempted to untie the bows. The pattern is a Plymouth pattern (CK06) for the yarn - Cotton Kisses.  I used size 7 needles and it took very little time to make 2 size 4 dresses - and it was lots of fun.  One skein each of 2 colors and plenty left over.  This yarn is machine washable and dryable - a necessity for VERY active children.  These colors and more are in stock at Ewe Knit Kits & Yarn http://www.eweknitkits.com .

So, when I gave each grandchild (only saw 3 this trip) a bag of treats, including the dresses for the girls, our grandson wanted to know what I knitted for him.  Did that make me feel fantastic and quilty at the same time.  Quick recovery - "I have a special treat for you for your first day of school in August!"  He was satisfied, but I still felt awful :o(

Adult Surprise Jacket

DSCN1818

This is my fourth Elizabeth Zimmerman Surprise  Jacket.  This one is for my sister in law, and one of the 4 items that I completed a couple of weeks ago.  I am going to order a zipper over the weekend so that I can complete it.  She's been waiting for a while for this, but I guess a couple more weeks won't make a difference now, with summer coming.  It's knitted with Butterfly 10 cotton.  I really love this yarn, but I must say, working with cotton this much can be quite tiring on the hands.  For those of you who have never knitted this sweater, please knit a Baby Surprise first.  It helps with the guess work for the adult sizes.  If you think this sweater is long, it IS!  SIL is very tall and she asked for a long sweater.  The one great thing about this pattern is it always comes out correctly if you do a guage and plug in the correct numbers.  Yes, the ugly word MATH enters the picture, but I think even YOU are "smarter than a third grader."

Had a great time at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival last weekend.  We just went for Saturday and am I glad.  As we were leaving to go home on Sunday from the hotel, it was raining (A LOT).  I'll talk more about the weekend on my next post... Happy Mothers Day to you and/or yours!

Heading to Maryland Sheep & Wool today!

We're headed to Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival today for the weekend.  It's appropriate to put this picure up today since I knitted practically the entire sweater in the bus last year on the way to and from last year's festival.  It's a 5  hour bus ride each way and our local guild arranges a trip almost every year.  10 hours is a lot of knitting time and I always like to pick a different NEW project.  This year my husband and I are going by car and meeting friends and spending the weekend.  Since I help with the driving, I won't have as much knitting time, but you know I'll share what have have done when I get back.  The forcast is rain but I know we will have a great time.

The yarn used in the sweater shown is Universal's Classic Tapastry Worsted.  They must be very generous with the yardage, because I barely went into the 5th skein and used an additional skein for the trim.  Less than 1200 yards is sort of impossible for me to make a sweater my size.  EXTRA BIG!  I wore this most of the winter and everyone loves it.  It's one of my favorite as well.. You can recognise the neck down pattern by Knitting Pure & Simple.   _AAB4729

Tye Dye Socks

DSCN1850

Knit One Crochet Too came out with a sock yarn to match some of the colors of the Tye Dye Cotton (another of my favorites).  I finished this pair last week.. Of course the weather has been too warm to wear them, but I might get a chance to wear them when I go to Maryland Sheep and Wool this weekend.  I purposely didn't match them so that they would be "fraternal."  Aren't they fun?  This yarn, by the way, is one of the best feeling sock yarns that I have worked with.. considering they have nylon in them and they are not hand dyed.  It now comes in 9 colors and each one is more beautiful than the last.

Soooooooo, it's been a year since I posted anything..... So, I've been busy.... So, I've been neglectful......... So, I closed my store in Virginia Beach in order to serve my internet people better.  So, maybe that is half the truth.... So, I have 6  wonderful grandchildren all very young and I want to spend more time with them since they do not live close to me.... So, I've seen some of them recently and they are the bestest little creations ever.... So, I am a little prejudiced!... So, maybe I am a lot prejudiced.  Did I tell you how smart they are???? ...So, I AM BACK!!!!

It's appropriate that I start showing off something from Lorna's Laces, since that is what I started with almost nine years ago when I first started my website business.   To start with something named "Pearl" is even more ironic.  My Grandmom Pearl taught me how to knit!  Pearl is a new yarn for Lorna's Laces and they made up the neatest kit with one skein (pictured).  It is presented in a box shaped like an oyster and there is a pearl in it!  Can you find the pearl in the scarf?  This yarn is a combination of silk and bamboo.  To put it mildly, it's a whole lot better than sliced bread!!  I showed it off at Borders last week to some of my knitting buddies.  Chris (one of us) suggested that I put a pearl in all of my knitting from now on as my signature.  What a fantastic idea!!  I bought some pearls today and can't wait to knit one in the baby sweater I am knitting with Plmouth Cotton Kisses.  I actually finished 3 items last week... Once I figure out how to put more than one picture up at a time I'll show you the other items completed.  There were socks that I have been working on for a while with Knit One, Crochet Too Tye Dye Sock Yarn... AND, I finally finished an Adult Surprise Jacket using Butterfly 10.  I will finish this little pink sweater fairly quickly, because the doorbell just rang and Plymouth sent me some Cotton Grande.  There is a really neat A-line sweater that a number of my customers are knitting, and I want to try it.  That's it for now, but I'll be back SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON

Cashmere 5

Cash_scarf

If only you could touch and feel this wonderful scarf, knitted with Art Yarns Cashmere 5.  I could say the 5 stands for 5 times softer than anything you have ever touched before.  It IS, but the five actually stands for 5 strands of lace yarn held together to make this wonderful worsted weight yarn.

In the skein it looks like lace, but when it is wound you see the thickness of the yarn and even more of the beauty!  I was experimenting with this scarf.  I knitted one skein in a reversible cable pattern and then knitted the second skein in a "mistake" rib, which is also reversible.  When anyone comes into the store, I MAKE them feel it.  You can not imagine their reactions!  If you look on our website to see the colors we have left (only 2), it's because everyone seems to think they have to have at least one for themselves...... More will be coming soon!

Brooke has arrived!

Brook

Our 5th grandchild (in less than 3 years) arrived on August 23, 2006!  This is Brooke's blankie and her parents are VERY SMART!... Practically all of the pictures that have been sent so far have her near or wrapped in this.  They have even called to ask how to wash it!!!  We now have 3 boys and 2 girls and we will be seeing her very soon.  Unfortunately none our kids live near us:o((

The blankie is knitted with Dark Horse Fantasy and I trimmed it and bound off with Berroco Touche.  Both are fantasic yarns and completely machine washable and machine dryable... It was washed and dried twice before I sent it, because everyone in the store needed to touch and feel.  Now, what kind of yarn store would this be if people weren't given a chance to do that!?!?!?
