Adult Surprise Jacket

 

This is my fourth Elizabeth Zimmerman Surprise  Jacket.  This one is for my sister in law, and one of the 4 items that I completed a couple of weeks ago.  I am going to order a zipper over the weekend so that I can complete it.  She's been waiting for a while for this, but I guess a couple more weeks won't make a difference now, with summer coming.  It's knitted with Butterfly 10 cotton.  I really love this yarn, but I must say, working with cotton this much can be quite tiring on the hands.  For those of you who have never knitted this sweater, please knit a Baby Surprise first.  It helps with the guess work for the adult sizes.  If you think this sweater is long, it IS!  SIL is very tall and she asked for a long sweater.  The one great thing about this pattern is it always comes out correctly if you do a guage and plug in the correct numbers.  Yes, the ugly word MATH enters the picture, but I think even YOU are "smarter than a third grader." 

Had a great time at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival last weekend.  We just went for Saturday and am I glad.  As we were leaving to go home on Sunday from the hotel, it was raining (A LOT).  I'll talk more about the weekend on my next post... Happy Mothers Day to you and/or yours! 

Heading to Maryland Sheep & Wool today!

We're headed to Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival today for the weekend.  It's appropriate to put this picure up today since I knitted practically the entire sweater in the bus last year on the way to and from last year's festival.  It's a 5  hour bus ride each way and our local guild arranges a trip almost every year.  10 hours is a lot of knitting time and I always like to pick a different NEW project.  This year my husband and I are going by car and meeting friends and spending the weekend.  Since I help with the driving, I won't have as much knitting time, but you know I'll share what have have done when I get back.  The forcast is rain but I know we will have a great time. 

The yarn used in the sweater shown is Universal's Classic Tapastry Worsted.  They must be very generous with the yardage, because I barely went into the 5th skein and used an additional skein for the trim.  Less than 1200 yards is sort of impossible for me to make a sweater my size.  EXTRA BIG!  I wore this most of the winter and everyone loves it.  It's one of my favorite as well.. You can recognise the neck down pattern by Knitting Pure & Simple.   

Tye Dye Socks

 

Knit One Crochet Too came out with a sock yarn to match some of the colors of the Tye Dye Cotton (another of my favorites).  I finished this pair last week.. Of course the weather has been too warm to wear them, but I might get a chance to wear them when I go to Maryland Sheep and Wool this weekend.  I purposely didn't match them so that they would be "fraternal."  Aren't they fun?  This yarn, by the way, is one of the best feeling sock yarns that I have worked with.. considering they have nylon in them and they are not hand dyed.  It now comes in 9 colors and each one is more beautiful than the last.
